Ambrose of Milan

Early Church Father and Bishop of Milan who is credited with pioneering Latin Christian hymnody and establishing the practice of congregational hymn-singing in worship. His surviving hymns, written in quantitative meter, profoundly influenced Western liturgical music traditions.
