Composer & LyricistAmerican Episcopal clergyman and hymn writer best known for composing the patriotic hymn 'God of Our Fathers' (1876), set to various melodies including Warren's 'National Hymn.' His hymns blended theological substance with American patriotic sentiment and appeared in major Episcopal hymnals. Roberts was a significant contributor to late nineteenth-century American Protestant hymnody.
