George Croly

Irish-English clergyman and hymn lyricist who wrote several enduring hymn texts including "Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart." Croly's literary hymns were adopted widely in Anglican, Methodist, and evangelical traditions throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
