Henry van Dyke

LyricistAmerican Presbyterian minister, author, and educator who wrote numerous hymn texts alongside his literary career. He composed or wrote texts for hymns including "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" (set to Beethoven's melody) and "God of the Open Air." Van Dyke's poetic hymn texts reflected his theological depth and literary skill.
