Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

American poet and educator whose literary works were frequently adapted into hymn texts during the 19th century. Though primarily known as a poet, several of his verses were set to music and became popular in Christian worship, particularly "Day Is Dying in the West." His poetic gifts contributed significantly to the repertoire of English-language hymn literature.
