Isaac Watts was an English Nonconformist minister and hymn writer who is considered the founder of modern English hymnody. He composed over 750 hymns including "I Sing the Mighty Power of God," "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "Jesus Shall Reign," fundamentally transforming Christian worship by introducing congregational singing of doctrinally sophisticated verse.
