Johann Rist

German Lutheran pastor and prolific hymn writer of the 17th century who produced over 650 hymns, many addressing faith during the Thirty Years' War. His texts were translated into English by John Troutbeck and other translators, spreading his theological poetry throughout the English-speaking Protestant world. Rist's contributions significantly shaped German and English hymnody.
