Joseph Mohr

Austrian Catholic priest and lyricist who wrote the words to "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night) in 1816. His simple, devotional text was paired with composer Franz Xaver Gruber's melody to create one of the world's most beloved Christmas hymns. Mohr's contribution to Christian hymnody is primarily through this single but immortal work.
