Joseph Scriven

Lyricist

Irish-born Canadian lyricist who wrote the words to "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" (1855), one of the most widely sung evangelical hymns. Scriven composed the text as a source of comfort during a personal crisis, and its universal themes of consolation made it beloved across Protestant denominations. His hymn has been translated into numerous languages and remains a staple of Christian worship worldwide.
