English Anglican clergyman and prolific hymn writer who served as Bishop of Calcutta. He wrote approximately 57 hymns, many of which remained in active use for over two centuries in British and American hymnals. His texts are characterized by scriptural depth, elegant language, and liturgical propriety; notable examples include 'Holy, Holy, Holy' and 'From Greenland's Icy Mountains.'
