Richard Storrs Willis

American composer and music critic who created the melody "Bethlehem" (1835), famously paired with the Christmas carol text "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear." Willis studied in Germany under Felix Mendelssohn and contributed significantly to American sacred music in the 19th century.
