William Howard Doane

American composer, publisher, and music director who was one of the most prolific and influential gospel hymn composers of the 19th century. Doane collaborated extensively with Fanny Crosby and other lyricists, creating over 2,200 compositions that shaped American evangelical hymnody. His publishing firm and musical leadership made him central to the development of gospel music as a distinct tradition.
