William Walker

American shape-note composer and music educator from Georgia whose major contribution was compiling and editing 'The Southern Harmony' (1835), a shape-note hymnal that became foundational to American folk hymnody and shape-note singing traditions. Walker's work preserved and disseminated early American hymn melodies throughout the South.
